How Electronics Recyclers International in Indianapolis Can Assist Your Community

Electronics Recyclers International, Inc. (ERI) is in the forefront of the effort to do environmentally safe and responsible disposal of electronic waste. The need for safe and sane methods of disposing of this type of waste is evidenced by a report from the United Nations Environmental Program. It reported that 20 to 50 million tons of electronic garbage are produced worldwide each year. “Not in My Backyard,” a Greenpeace study in 2008, reported that only 25% of the e-waste in Europe was properly recycled. In America, the figure is 20%. In developing countries, the amount is less than 1% of the total.

Much of this dangerous material is exported to developing nations such as Ghana, Nigeria, Pakistan and China. In the West, some is burned in incinerators or dumped into landfills. The EU and the US must play a larger role in correcting this problem if the situation is going to be improved.

At the ERI plants in North America, including the facility at 3029 N. Post Road in Indianapolis, the most technologically superior, high capacity e-waste shredding is done.

How Can ERI Assist Your Community?

Electronic Recyclers International will work in a partnership with your city. It will work with your city government to plan and execute effective collection methods: curbside pickups, weekend collection drives and other efforts. It will encourage residents to take part in this important public service.

Citizens will only cooperate in a program like this if they are aware of its importance and the need for it. ERI will work hand-in-hand with city employees to develop and implement an effective plan. It will have suggestions, such as how to make the most effective use of radio and TV advertising, newspaper ads, e-mail and mass mail outs. People will feel a part of this important effort.
